What is Photoshop?

  • Photoshop is a photo editing, image creation and graphic design software.
  • Photoshop was created in 1988 by Thomas and John Knoll, and released by Adobe in 1990.
  • It can edit and compose images in multiple layers and support masks, alpha compositing and several color model.
  • Photoshop is available for monthly fee between $9.99 and $49.99 depending on the users requirements and option selected.
  • This software have many versions, the latest version is Photoshop CC (creative cloud) compatible with mac and windows computers.


File format

  • Photoshop supports many file format along with its own file format PSD and PSB.
  • PSD
  • PSD stands for "Photoshop Document".
  • A PSD file stores an image with support for most imaging option in Photoshop, like layers with masks, transparency, text, alpha channels and spot colors, clipping paths and dutone setting
  • A PSD file has maximum height and width of 30,000 pixels and length limit of 2GB.
  • PSB
  • PSB stands for "Photoshop Big" also known as "large document format".
  • It have maximum height and width of 300,000 pixels and length limit around 4 exabyte.

  • Typography
  • Animation cell, sprites and GIF animation
  • Web images

Advantages

  • Photoshop have organizational tools and ability to edit quickly.
  • Using Photoshop you can also create images.

  • Using creative cloud account you can share images worldwide.

Disadvantages

  • Photoshop is not available for free.
  • To use Photoshop you have to learn how to use.
  • Advanced functionality of Photoshop only can used by professionals.
