Spacing

  • spacing is a general term for the area of page left blank in particular, the areas between words, letters, lines of type or paragraphs.
  • The space between character should be always even.
  • White space is used in printing for the parts of page left blank.

Kerning
  • Kerning means adjusting the space between individual letter or character of text.
  • Kerning becomes more important in italic types, and size of the font increases.
Tracking
  • Tracking means adjusting the spacing throughout the entire word.
  • Use tracking to change the overall appearance and readability of the text, making it more open.
Leading
  • Leading is determined as how text is placed vertically in lines.
  • There isn't one right way when it comes to leading, it depends on the design that your working.
  • When using colors other than black text on white, increase the leading.

Uses of white space

  • Ample margins and short lines, with extra leading between lines.
  • Blocks of print indented off the left margin with headings out dented.
  • Short paragraphs, with space breaks between paragraphs.
  • Bulleted or numbered list structures where appropriate.

Advantage of spacing

  • Readability
    The most important purpose of your work is to showcase your content to your target audience. So to increase readability we have to use spacing.
  • Content prioritization and engagement
    space helps to focus on what you have presented as the text. IT prevents them from being distracted by other features that may slow them down and this in fact helps them to focus on the text.
  • Enhances presentation and quality of the website.
    Use of space in suitable places on the web page and in creative ways, gives rest to the eye, the eye can take in the textual content in a more relaxed way.
  • Layout
    Efficient use of space can be better enabled by the use of interesting and well planned layouts. They can help to enhance and add value to brand positioning efforts.
