Vector graphics

  • Vector graphics is the creation of digital images through a sequence of commands or mathematical statements that place lines and shapes in a given two-dimensional or three-dimensional space.
  • Vector graphics are created from mathematical formulas
  • It allow to resize a image with minimal effect on file size and image clarity.
  • It does not depends on individual pixels.
  • PDF, AI, EPS, CDR, SVG and PPT are the common types of vector files.

Raster Graphics

  • Raster graphics are digital images made up of rectangular pixels or square of colors.
  • Raster are usually larger than vector images.
  • JPEG/JFIF, PNG, pSD, BMP, GIF and TIFF are common types of roaster images.

Disadvantage of raster
  • When raster images is scaled up it usually loss quality
  • It is more difficult to print using a limited amount of spot colors.
  • Depending on the complexity of an images, conversion to the vector may be time consuming.

Advantage of vector

  • They can be scaled to whatever size you want without losing the quality.

  • Components in a vector graphic can be individually designed. When you edit it, you don’t have to repeat the entire design. You will choose the parts that you want to edit and you could do it easily.

    • Vector graphics are not made up of pixels, they made with the individual shapes. So,when we enlarge or increasing(Zoom) the size of a image it will not the loss the quality.

    • Smaller in file size
    • It is used to draw the detail information.

    Disadvantage of vector

    • Vector graphics will supported by the modern browsers only.
    • Vector Graphics will not used in Photos.
    • Even small drawing errors are often visible, when the images are enlarged.
    • It is time consuming and also specific talent must be needed to create it.
